Action for Education runs projects that stand up for refugees across Greece. We run education programmes and safe spaces for women, children and youth. Each of our centres is tailored to meet the acute needs of asylum seekers. We’re committed to breaking down barriers to education and this means our education centres are versatile spaces that not only provide lessons and classrooms, but also offer services (nutrition, protection, sanitation) that support learners in accessing these spaces. We’re a 100% volunteer team of teachers and youth workers, bringing our extensive experience in education to a grassroots, emergency context.
About the Role
We’re now looking for a volunteer fundraising coordinator to join our team on the ground in Greece - primarily based on Samos island. This position is key to ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of our projects. The Fundraising Coordinator will work in close collaboration with our Coordination Team to grow AFE’s prospects in the short and long term.
Although this role doesn’t involve direct teaching or work in our projects, it’s crucial our Fundraising Coordinator is willing to get stuck in, meet participants, learn about our work and share our ethos of hard-work. We’re looking for someone who brings creativity, blending this with demonstrable experience in the field of fundraising.
To review and analyse AFE’s fundraising and grant writing efforts to date, and plan and implement our June fundraising campaign
To develop a short-term and long-term fundraising strategy in collaboration with AFE’s coordination team
To visit our ongoing projects to keep up-to-date with our current work and project developments
To lead on the development and writing of bids, corporate propositions and pitches for new and current partnerships, including Trusts, Corporate Leads and Major Donors
To lead on developing strategy for and implementing, a high-quality range of marketing activities and events to engage with donors
To build good relationships and manage high level relationships with key funder contacts
To follow situational updates related to refugee issues in Greece, and how these may impact on fundraising activities and AFE strategy
To produce ongoing & end-of-grant reports, ensuring a high-level of visual and written info.
To develop, utilise and update our CRM system to manage and track funder details, communications, donations and status.
Your set of skills:
You have at least one year of experience in fundraising for nonprofits
You possess knowledge of the charity sector, ideally with a focus on education and/or crisis response
You share our vision of a world in which everyone has equal chances to access and be successful in higher education
You have relevant knowledge, experience or understanding of the situation in Greece regarding the ongoing refugee crisis and the injustices of the current asylum arrangement
You are familiar with AFE’s work in Greece
You hold strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to compile and present briefings and reports to a variety of audiences
You have strong analytical, problem-solving, and planning skills and demonstrate resourceful and strategic thinking
You are a multi-tasker who performs well under pressure, and are willing to put long hours into supporting the work of a young and dynamic NGO
A stipend up to 450€ and free shared accommodation
Expected start date: May 2019
