Forced to leave your country: music of movement

Music and Recording by Abdullah Translation by Abbas Illustration by Octavian FitzHerbert

My name is Abdullah, I’m 16 and I’m from Iraq.

I sang this song because I wanted everyone to understand how difficult it is to be forced to leave your own country. It is impossible to explain to people who haven’t experienced it. It is impossible to explain the pain. This song talks about the pain that a person must live everyday of his/her life.

I called from a distance No one heard my voice Neither my father nor my friends Nor my mother nor my brothers. In alienation I felt choking. I want to move and I want to scream And sometimes I felt my soul leaving my body And my death coming closer.
